Childhood on a cattle ranch

Seasons, weather, animals and rural life in Oklahoma are a solid foundation for faith in nature and God. Day to day, month to month and year to year, the canyons and sky remain a favorite sanctuary and wind the inspiration as seasons pass. Friends, family and colleagues crossed this context like wagons rolling West, like cattle on the Chisholm Trail, connecting the stories of Prairie Schooners with ocean voyages and wilderness trekking.  In this photo is one of our registered Simmental cow and calf pairs, taken in my teens when being a vet, a cattle rancher and a world traveler were still just distant dreams. At least some dreams come true!
